Raising Zane

There's nothing more boring in a blog than reading about why someone hasn't been posting. It took one email from one of my loyal fans for me to finally get AROUND to this poor abandoned blog. Instead of blathering about how I've been in some kind of fog for a few months, and probably a little depressed and menopausal, I'll just start writing. . . .

Poop. Pee. Teething. It's all happening again in our household. My youngest goes off to kindergarten and I get this urge to get the collie I've always wanted. Coincidence? I think not.

Anyhow, now we have a collie pup. Jack loves him. I love him. John and Will are slightly less enthused. His name is Zane and he is just lovely, a five-month-old sable and white. He is my buddy during the day, quiet mellow, and understanding. He's a great copyeditor and writing coach, but his familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style leaves a little to be desired. So that, and trying to eat bacon frying in the pan, are his weak points.

Dog lovers, if anyone is reading this, comment away. Dog haters, not so much.

oh, dear. I know your readership has not abandoned you, but they can't all be dog haters, can they?
Zane is just lovely. We were delighted to meet him and welcome him to our dog-friendly town. Our dog could take lessons from him!

Yippee! A doggie! You know we are partial to them...
And I love Collies. Our own Shadow (Border Collie, but still) was kind enough to eat a stick of butter during her first week.

Thank goodness you're back, lady!

Congrats on the pup! Welcome to the Unintentional Fur Clothing Club! (Next time for me? Black Lab mix.)

Glad you're back. I guess you and Anjali are the only bloggers I read whose children are also going to kindergarten like Kelvin (most have a first grader)... but since you're a veteran (he's your second child after all), you probably won't be writing much about this, right?

Anyway... I think Collies are absolutely gorgeous dogs and I hope I can meet Zane someday. As for having a dog... well, maybe someday. Right now I choose to remain a cat person ;) But I do ADORE playing with other people's dogs ;)

Oh, yeah, and thanks for the suggestion, I may get a dog when Linton goes to kindergarten in two years ;)

I HEARD "RAISING ZANE" MENTIONED TODAY WHILE WATCHING "ONE LIFE TO LIVE" SO I GOOGLED IT AND STUMBLED UPON YOUR WEBSITE. I THINK IT IS, SOMEWHAT, COINCIDENTAL THAT MY HUSBAND'S NAME IS THE SAME AS YOUR BELOVED COLLIE!! SINCE HIS NAME STARTS WITH A "Z", WE HAVE CARRIED THROUGH WITH THAT THEME IN NAMING OUR PETS. HAD I BEEN ABLE TO HAVE CHILDREN I WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME WITH THEIR NAMES. OUR DOG--ZEBB--HAD TO BE EUTHANIZED IN OCTOBER, BUT OUR CAT--ZOE-E--IS STILL WITH US. WE HAVE A KITTEN--EZMERELDAH--THAT I DID NOT NAME BUT I DID MAKE SURE SHE HAD ATLEAST ONE "Z" IN HER NAME!! WHY ARE YOU NOT BLOGGING NOW??
